Spira

Turning is one of the oldest techniques available for refining wood and can be traced all the way back to the Egyptians 14th century BC. In Sweden this technique was the basis of a thriving export of traditional Windsor chairs in the early 1900s.

Due to my great passion for Swedish wood production, I did a journey through Sweden in 2018, visiting both small- and large scale wooden factories. One of my discoveries was that turning as a technique has developed significantly, but the expression still most artisanal with the character of the wood exposed in its most flattering way.

With this insight, I set out to design a series of contemporary furniture, highlighting the beauty of turned wood, inspired by classic Windsor chairs and highlighting the beauty of turned wood. The Spira series consists of a dining chair, a lounge chair, a rocking chair and a dividing screen. Designed with care to every detail and innovative production solutions, a tribute to Scandinavian nature and wood production. The Spira series was awarded Plaza Interior’s award of honour for sustainability in 2021.
