Spira

Due to my passion for Swedish wood production, I travelled through Sweden in 2018, visiting both small- and large-scale wooden factories. Seeing examples of turning being used in wood production, I became interested in exploring ways of incorporating this technique in my own design. Turning is one of the oldest known techniques for refining wood and can be traced all the way back to the Egyptians 14th century BC. In Sweden, turning was the basis of a thriving export of traditional Windsor chairs in the early 1900s.

I set out to design a series of contemporary furniture using innovative production solutions, inspired by classic Windsor chairs and showing the beauty of turned wood in the most flattering way.

The Spira series consists of a dining chair, a lounge chair, a rocking chair and a dividing screen.
