Accordion

The manifesto, “form follows function” never really appealed to me. But if function becomes a beautiful feature itself and engineering fuses with art, I am fascinated.

With this project I set out to design a contemporary drop-leaf table, focusing on the folding mechanism as the main feature of the table.

After studying many foldable tables from traditional folklore to more modern ones, I focused
on creating a simple functional mechanism with an unexpected sculptural beauty present in all stages of expanding and contracting – like an accordion. A wooden instrument, made for good company, dining, work and leisure. With Accordion drop-leaf table, there is always room for one more person, or more work surface.

Accordion is handmade in Sweden.
